여기서 담대함을 요즘 성경은 확신으로 번역하는데, 이는 적절한 번역이 아니라고 본다.
παρρησία 의 기본 뜻은 아래와 같다.
1. 숨김 없이 말하거나 건너뜀 없이 말하는 것. 솔직히 말함, 솔직함
2. 대중에게 공개적으로 말하거나 행동함
3. 담대한 상태와 확신, 용기
본문은 성도의 고난받는 상황을 이야기하면서
비방, 환난, 구경거리됨, 소유를 뺏김을 경험하는 성도들이 환난과 핍박이 무서워서
그리스도인으로서의 사랑과 일을 하지 않거나, 성도임을 더러내지 못하는 상황을 극복할 뿐만 아니라
기쁘게 당하는 것이 더 낫고 영구한 소유가 있기 때문이라고 말씀한다.
그러므로 너희의 담대함을 버리지 말라라고 이해한 것이 옳다.
확신이라는 것은 너 낫고 영구한 소유가 있다는 확신을 버리지 말라는 뜻이 지만
다음 구절에서 인내가 필요함을 말씀하심으로
핍박에 대한 인내로 이해할 수있다.
확신에 인내가 필요하다기 보다. 환난 가운데 담대함 그리스도임을 숨기지 않고 담대함으로 드러냄에 인내가
필요하다고 할 수 있다.
팔레시아는 쫄지 마라는 뜻으로 해석할 수 있다.
선교지에도 많은 선교사들이 핍박 앞에 쫄고 있다.
쫄아서 숨어 있다.
풍세를 살펴보는 자는 파종하지 못할 것이요 구름만 바라보는 자는 거두지 못하리라
Ec 11:4.

They had accepted this persecution, too, in a spirit of Christian cheerfulness.
“Blessed are you,” their Master had said, “when men hate you, and when they exclude you and revile you, and cast out your name as evil, on account of the Son of man! Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy; for behold, your reward is great in heaven” (Luke 6:22f.). It was exactly in the sense of this exhortation that these Hebrew Christians took the plundering of their property not merely in a spirit of equanimity but joyfully; it was for such as they, as well as for himself, that Paul spoke when he said, “we rejoice in our sufferings” (Rom. 5:3). The eternal inheritance laid up for them was so real in their eyes that they could lightheartedly bid farewell to material possessions, which were short-lived in any case. This attitude of mind is precisely that “faith” of which our author goes on to speak. They manifested it in those earlier days, and that is why he is so confident that they will continue to manifest it, although the trials which confront them now are different from those which they faced then, and more subtle in character.
10:35 You showed your courage in those days, he says; do not abandon it now. The word he uses (Gk. parrhēsia) has appeared three times already in this letter. In 4:16; 10:19 it is used of the confidence with which Christians may approach the throne of God since Christ is there as their prevailing high priest; in 3:6 it is used more generally of the courageous confession which Christians should maintain without fail. It is in this last sense that it is used here, with special reference to steadfastness in adverse and disheartening circumstances: “it is, so to say, the content of the Christian attitude in the world, the security of God’s salvation and the open confession amidst … opposition.” We may think of the “boldness” of Peter and John which made such an impression on the Sanhedrin (Acts 4:13); the forthrightness of their language evinced an inner confidence of heart and life. So it had been with these “Hebrews”; preserve that former confidence of yours, says our author, for it carries a great reward with it (using a word which is peculiar to him among biblical writers, and which is not known before his time). This is the “reward” of which Jesus spoke in the words quoted above from Luke 6:23; it is the realization of the promise in the good of which people of faith already live.
